I'm Chelsea.

San Francisco & happy hour… two of my favorite things! Since I’ve been coming to San Francisco a lot this year, I have enjoyed my fair share of happy hours here.

Moscone Center is San Francisco’s main convention center and where many of you business travelers may spend your time while in the city. If you aren’t at the Moscone Center for your convention or meeting, there is a good chance it is taking place in one of the nearby hotels! The Moscone Center has an incredible location in the heart of downtown SF and is close to so many great bars and restaurants. With such a grand selection, it can get overwhelming and sometimes you end up at what is closest to the hotel or the most touristy (been there, done that). Happy hour deals aren’t always the easiest to find in San Francisco either compared to cities like Austin which seem to have a happy hour at every single restaurant.

Well search no more! These are what I think are the 9 best happy hours in order of which are closest to the Moscone Center.

SOMA Eats

SOMA Eats is a casual cafe & bottle shop serving up sandwiches, salads and more as well as wine and beer. They offer $2 off wine and beer on tap and a discounted cheese board during happy hour. They also have no corkage fee if you purchase wine or beer from the shop, so grab a bottle of wine and enjoy it right on property with a delicious sandwich!

Press Club

Modern, dark, and sleek, this wine lounge has an intimate feel that would be perfect when the weather is less than desirable outside. Another perk… happy hour daily until 6pm! During this time (they open at 4pm Monday-Thursday and 2pm Friday-Sunday) enjoy $3 off wines by the glass and draft beers.

Salt House

Exposed brick & trendy is how I might describe the two-story Salt House, and they have a great happy hour to match the cool vibe. Their happy hour runs from 2-6pm Monday-Friday and includes $7 cocktails such as the Tijuana Cup (pimms, cucumber, jalapeño, ginger beer), $6 select wine and draft beer. Bites range in price but you may like their $3.50 oyster of the day and a $15 house burger.

Uno Dos Tacos

If you’re craving your Mexican fix and want an outdoor setting, Uno Dos Tacos is your place. From 4-8pm you can expect to find $4 draft and bottled beer, $6.50 margaritas, $5 sangria, and $5 bar bites (think flautas, quesadillas, tostaditas, etc.)

83 Proof

83 Proof may be small but they put out a cheap, drinks-based happy hour. From 2-7pm Monday-Thursday, and noon-7pm on Friday you can get $4 drafts and $4 wells. If you’re looking for a simple, great-valued happy hour that starts early, look no further!

E&O Kitchen and Bar

Asian flare right outside of Chinatown, this happy hour is quite the bargain. From 3-6pm Monday-Saturday you can score $4 beer, $6 wine and cocktails. I personally enjoyed the Blushing Geisha with el jimador tequila, sake, prickly pear, lime. They also have discounted bar bites (which mind you they are a smaller portion than their regular menu), but they are still a great value. I suggest the $3 ahi tuna tartare, $4 wood oven naan, and the $1 oysters.

RN74

Michael Mina has done it again, and there’s a phenomenal happy hour to showcase his amazing creations. From 4-6pm Monday-Friday (in the bar & lounge only), RN74 offers a $7 happy hour including four classic cocktails, wine, oysters, foie gras toast, crispy pork rillette, croque monsieur, and more. Although I did not get a chance to dine here for happy hour, I did dine here for lunch and this restaurant is not to be missed.

Klyde Cafe & Wine Bar

This wine bar runs their happy hour daily from 3-7pm. It has a trendy, vintage vibe and includes $5 select wines (a red, a white, a rose) and $25 bottles during happy hour. I suggest grabbing a charcuterie plate as well!

The European

The European has all the right things going on. The space is small, dark, and beautiful, and they serve up drinks which are supposed to reflect what the Europeans drank during the Prohibition. Love this concept. Happy hour is 4-6pm Monday-Friday featuring an array of great specials. I like the $6 bubbly cocktails (i.e. Flume with plum, maple and cava) and for food the $4 braised pork slider, $4 popcorn, and $11 cheese plate.

Safe travels y’all!

Best,

Chelsea Rose Martin
