I'm Chelsea.

Ugh, the unavoidable red eye. Part of you is excited that you get the whole day when you land, but let’s be honest you’re mostly just dreading the lack of sleep, crying babies, and bags under your eyes. Although I may not be able to fix those problems for you, I do have some packing tips to make the red eye experience a little more pleasant.

Above is my bag of tricks. Let’s break it down:
  • Neutrogena Natural Face Wipes – A fresh face is the most important thing to me on a red eye. Yes, I may not look the cutest completely make-up free for the duration of the flight, but your face will thank you later. I like these ones and how convenient the travel size is, but there are other brands as well.
  • Almay Eye Make-Up Removers – While the face wipes are fab, this little bonus step makes a big difference personally.. plus they come in a cute carry-on size!
  • Eye Mask – I don’t know what I would do without it, truly. I was one of those people who wouldn’t give in to getting one (why? who knows), but it makes a huge difference. I cannot sleep on planes, but this little friend of mine helps me at least get a couple hours of shut-eye.
  • Neck Pillow (not pictured) – I’m the freak on the plane who has a neck pillow but doesn’t use it as a neck pillow. Regardless, being a window-seat devotee (where y’all at, holla), it is nice to have some kind of pillow to lean against the window. Or use it the traditional way like a normal person, whatever floats your boat.
  • Toothbrush & Paste – I personally brush my teeth both before and after a red eye. It is technically the time you would be going to bed and waking up, so you might as well keep up with your routine.
  • A Healthy Bar – My choice is Quest. Getting off a red eye flight is kind of like being hungover. You feel groggy and gross so you tend to reach for something less nutritious. Stop right there! Bars like Quest taste better than cookies (yes, really) and are a much smarter choice to kick off your day post-flight.
  • Decaffeinated Tea – A nice cup of warm tea before bed is not only great for your digestive system, but also for your mind. I like the Yogi Green Decaf Tea with Kombucha, or your standard chamomile would work great (you can probably snag a bag from your hotel room on the way out).
  • Comfy socks (not pictured) – Feels like home and adds a touch of comfort to your journey.
  • Lotion – It is no myth that being airborne dries out your skin, so just a travel size of lotion can do wonders. Heck, take the hotel room lotion and you’re good to go!
  • Ibu Profen – I praise you if you can walk off of a red eye without some aches and pains. It’s good to have a small amount on you just in case those aches turn into serious pain.
I’m always in the market for some new ideas, so if you have any please feel free to share!
Safe travels y’all!
Best,
Chelsea Rose Martin
