You’ve probably seen the chic, colorful meals and this strange concept known as watermelon jerky on your Instagram feed from Victoria Secrets supermodels and New York health fiends. But what is this plant-based, meal delivery service phenomenon that’s sweeping social media?
I had my first taste of Sakara Life at Create + Cultivate where I snacked on watermelon jerky and plant protein granola all day, and I was instantly hooked. Simple & nutritious ingredients and the gorgeous packaging had me on the hunt all day for any extras I could take home with me. Unlucky for me, every other attendee felt the same. Lucky for me, you can order all of it online.
Intrigued by these vibrant, plant-based meals that actually looked more delicious than standard meal delivery services, I had to try more. Knowing I was going to be staying in Marco Island, Florida for 23 days without many innovative healthy food options around, I put in an order for the Sakara Empower Bar Collection.
These bars are good. Unique in their own ways, each one had a completely different flavor and served different purposes. Need a good detox? Try the Detox Bar. Want to feel beautiful and glowing both inside & out? Try the Beauty Bar. Just worked out and are craving a tasty post-workout treat? Try the Plant Protein Bar. There’s truly a bar for everything!
The Detox Bar
The name itself intrigued me because who doesn’t need a good detox in their life? Upon opening the bar I was surprised to physically see the charcoal as half of the bar was black. I was afraid this would stain or get in my teeth, but it didn’t!
Ingredients: Organic Cashews, Organic Macqui Berry Powder, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shredded Coconut, Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Dates, Organic Vanilla Extract, Organic Raw Honey, Organic Charcoal Powder, Organic Lucuma, Organic Coconut Butter
Nutritional Facts: 260 cal, 15g fat, 28g carbs, 16g sugar, 4g fiber, 5g protein
Thoughts & Tastes: Soft / Sweet but not too sweet / A little nutty
The Plant Protein Bar
While this bar doesn’t have as many grams of protein as some other protein bars I consume, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the fact that the sources of protein were natural and plant-based. If I were to eat it after a weight training session, I would probably pair it with more protein. It’s perfect for after yoga or a mid-day snack!
Ingredients: Organic Almonds, Organic Pecans, Organic Goji Berries, Organic Flaxseeds, Organic Milk Thistle Powder, Organic Ginseng Powder, Organic Plant Protein Powder, Organic Matcha Tea Powder, Organic Honey, Organic Almond Butter, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Vanilla Paste, Celtic Sea Salt
Nutritional Facts: approx 280 cal, 22g fat, 16g carbs, 7g sugar, 5g fiber, 6g protein
Thoughts & Tastes: Very nutty especially pecans / Can see and taste the goji berries / Pretty sticky with honey / Very delicious and filling
The Beauty Bar
This bar was probably my favorite because it is so unique compared to any bar I’ve ever eaten. You can taste the coconut and pineapple, and everything about it felt fresh. It was filling without feeling heavy which is what a beauty bar should be like!

Thoughts & Tastes: Tropical flavor with the pineapple & coconut / Thick & hearty / Filling
The Clarity Bar
I took this bar to the beach and embraced all of its fresh flavorful goodness. First off, I love the ingredients. Lots of lemon, lucuma, turmeric, green coffee, and coconut butter… the flavors are insane! I don’t think I would have thought to put all of those ingredients together, but let me tell you it works.

Thoughts & Tastes: Citrus / Half soft and half solidy & nutty
The Grounding Bar
I’m still so depressed about this one. Maybe I ate it after it already went bad. Who knows, but it was NOT good. The texture was mushy with too many seeds, and the flavor actually tasted like mushroom. Not a fan of this one.
Ingredients: Organic Pumpkin Seeds, Organic Flaxseed, Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds, Organic Bananas, Organic Dates, Organic Spirulina Powder, Organic Reishi Mushroom Powder
Nutritional Facts: The nutritional information provided online was very confusing, but it is possibly this (2 per container): 140 cal, 9g fat, 11g carbs, 6g sugar, 3g fiber, 6g protein
Thoughts & Tastes: Tasted like mushroom / Mushy / Lots of seeds
The Manifestation Bar
This bar physically looked like and had the texture of most bars I eat, so I knew I would like it. The taste was so unique and just what I like. With a chocolate-y date base and a subtle mint flavor, this bar tasted just like a mint chocolate chip dessert… but better.
Ingredients: Organic Dates, Organic Golden Raisins, Organic Almonds, Organic Cashews, Organic Plant Protein Powder, Organic Cacao Powder, Organic Coconut Nectar, Organic Mint Extract, Organic Almond Flour, Organic Cacao Nibs, Celtic Sea Salt, Organic Ormus
Nutritional Facts: 190 cal, 10g fat, 19g carbs, 7g sugar, 9g fiber, 7g protein
Thoughts & Tastes: Can really taste the mint / Thick and hearty and more solid compared to some of the other bars / Little bit of cacao pieces and nuts / Overall flavors are chocolate, dates, mint
