I recently had the opportunity to check out the brand new Andaz Mayakoba down in Riviera Maya, Mexico. It just opened in December, but there are no growing pains here. The staff was kind and intuitive, the rooms pristine with everything working correctly, the food was incredible, and the massage was heavenly.

Located less than a 40 minute drive from the Cancun airport, you will still feel worlds away from Cancun. The beaches are quiet with a secluded feel and the lagoon gives your vacation a tropical, almost jungle vibe. Mayakoba is a complex of four hotels (blog post to come on the differences amongst them all), and Andaz Mayakoba was a much needed addition to the portfolio. Think clean lines, trendy, and colorful. The youthful ambience is enticing to couples and families alike, and what makes me love this property so much is how obtainable it is for so many. Mayakoba is often thought of as ultra luxury as you could be shelling out nearly $1000 per night at some of the other properties, but Andaz is priced well without losing that level of service. Sometimes it’s nice to have an amazing meal but not have to spend $100 per person on it, ya know?

Here’s my glimpse at a perfect day at Andaz Mayakoba and let me know if you would like to book this incredible vacation!

7am: Sunrise Yoga

There is no better way to start the day off than with sunrise yoga. We took the class at the pool, with the class ending with the sun rising over the ocean. Pure bliss!

9am: Breakfast at Cocina Milagro

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Andaz Mayakoba does it right. The omelet bar had many various toppings, there were a number of fruit choices, and can we talk about the pastries and waffle bar?! Another thing I loved was the green juice and steamed almond milk lattes. It’s easy to be lactose intolerant here, because there are still so many options!

Breakfast for two at Cocina Milagro is included when you book your trip with Passport To Friday!

11am: Pool & Beach Time

The gorgeous white sand beach of Mayakoba is the perfect place to spend a sunny day. Cozy up on one of the bright colored beach chairs and order a cocktail! More of a pool person? You can choose to relax at either the beach pool or the lagoon pool, or you can go pool hopping!

1pm: Tequila & Ceviche Tasting Lunch at OllaCeviche

A fun alternative to a traditional lunch is to organize a tequila & ceviche tasting. We tasted a wide range of tequilas and mezcals that are definitely not your standard Jose Cuervo. I was amazed by how much we learned about and how different they all tasted! To top it off, we tried 4 different ceviches including octopus, grouper, shrimp, and scallops.

2pm: Cerveza Tasting at OllaTaco

As if the tequila tasting wasn’t enough, Andaz Mayakoba offers cerveza tasting a few times a week and of course you must try it. We sampled and learned about five different Mexican craft beers. They were all so different and SO good! All of these beers are available at the OllaTaco bar (which would go great with some tacos!)

4pm: Massage at the Spa

In my opinion, a massage is a must to a perfect day in paradise. Putting yourself at ease and treating yourself in a serene environment is one of the best gifts you can give your mind and body. Andaz Mayakoba’s spa features 6 treatment rooms that are unique to most spas I have been to. The treatment rooms make you feel apart of nature as you have the choice to have your massage with the blinds open surrounded by the Mayakoba “wilderness”. End your massage with a glass of water on the back patio with a relaxing view.

6:30pm: Take a Lagoon Boat Ride to Dinner

One thing that makes Mayakoba so special is that everything is connected by waterways. Since we were staying down by the beach, we were able to take a boat up to Casa Amate for dinner. They also offer eco-cruise tours daily at 11am complimentary where you can learn about all of the different wildlife in the lagoon, and you may even see a crocodile!

7pm: Dinner at Casa Amate

Our dinner experience at Casa Amate was so special. First off, the space is gorgeous. Set to feel like you are in a house, you are welcomed to explore the spaces and choose where you would like to dine. Feel like eating dinner in the library? Or the living room area? I also loved the traditional Mayan menu, featuring local favorite dishes with an innovative twist rather than what us as tourists consider “traditional” Mexican dishes.

We started with the Firewood Grilled Paguas Salad and the Cuban Crustacean Soup. For our entrees we got the Smoked Mullet Fish and the Ayampaco, which was the catch of the day wrapped in a banana leaf. Everything tasted so fresh and had such unique flavors!

9pm: Nightcap in the Bar at Casa Amate

An amazing day deserves to end the right way, and a nightcap at Casa Amate is ideal. We ordered the Pueblo Antiguo which is made with tequila resposado, mezcal, Mexican chili agave syrup, and angostura bitters. Relax, unwind, and wake up and do it all over again!

Safe travels y’all!
