I'm Chelsea.

The thing I often dread most about travel days is how much I end up eating. You have a 4am wake-up call, get to the airport to make your 6am flight, have a layover somewhere, and then don’t end up at your destination until late afternoon then it’s off to a dinner with the client or coworkers that includes copious amounts of heavy food. And what have I been doing all day because I’m bored and my whole schedule feels off? Eat.

While everyone may not have this problem, I do know how tempting those empty caloric airport pastries or breakfast burritos may look when you’re groggy at 6am. You eat it, and 2 hours later you’re hungry again because it contained no nutritional value whatsoever. Well what I personally suggest is bringing a few different nutritious snacks. This way you never feel like you are depriving yourself of food because you’re constantly eating, yet you are still getting good, well-balanced food throughout the day to keep your energy up while traveling.

Being a snack fiend, I have my favorites that are higher in calories (looking at you 310 calorie Perfect Foods bars) that don’t often satisfy me as a full meal, and I also have my favorite snacks which are lower in calories (see list below) that are great when you just seem to get hungry a couple hours after your actual meal (and work great as accompaniments to bars that are higher in calories!) These are 5 great snacks that have minimal ingredients and are under 100 calories for those times when you need something quick and light.

SkinnyPop Popcorn

I’m eating this on my plane as we speak, it’s just too good. A simple snack that will satisfy all of your salt cravings. I love SkinnyPop because it is non-GMO, gluten & dairy free, contains no preservatives or artificial flavors and portioned great with 100 calorie bags. Perfect to bring alongside a protein bar for a short haul!

Ingredients: Popcorn, sunflower oil, salt

Calories: 100 cal

That’s It Fruit Bar

These are a wonderful creation! Don’t have the time to chop up fresh fruit or will be without refrigeration for awhile? Just throw one of these in your bag and you have a great serving of fruit! There are 10 different flavors which all include and apple plus a portion of whatever the pairing is. They are all 100 calories except for the Apple + Coconut, which is only 110 calories. Also, they are in a soft bar form that packs so much flavor into each bite. DELICIOUS!

Ingredients: 1 apple + 20 blueberries (other variations for other flavors, but always only 2 ingredients)

Calories: 100 cal

100 Calorie Nuts Pack

You cannot go wrong with just some plain ol’ nuts. Packed with essential nutrients such as protein and fiber, even with just 100 calories these will keep you satisfied longer than some other snacks might. Several companies make 100 calorie packs or you can make your own, just make sure to portion it correctly!

Ingredients: Almonds + walnuts (or whichever nuts pack you choose)

Calories: 100 cal

Organic Brown Rice Cake

Another convenient snack that will satisfy your salt craving! As much as I love these paired with almond butter or hummus, rice cakes are great on their own too. For a simple, under 100 calorie snack, try it plain!

Ingredients: Organic whole grain brown rice, sea salt

Calories: 60 cal per cake

Apple

I’m such a fan of apples. Easy, delicious, nutritious, and low calorie. It is the perfect accompaniment to any meal or travel snack pack. It also makes for a great dessert alternative!

Ingredients: Apple (I prefer organic Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, or Gala)

Calories: Approx. 80-100 cal

Safe travels y’all!

Best,

Chelsea Rose Martin
