Another San Francisco post coming at you, but this time a little less drinks & apps and a little more juice & detox. Although I was in San Francisco for leisure this time around, I still had a couple meetings in the Financial District area, specifically near the Moscone Center. Living the travel lifestyle, sometimes I just need a good, healthy meal. I always make a point to try the local cuisine that is unique to the city, but even in Greece I caved and got an acai bowl once. Especially when I have been to a destination often, I really don’t need to get an over the top meal ALL the time.
I have scouted out some healthy options for all you folks who are in town for meetings, conventions, or just happen to be in the general area. Here they are in order of closest to the Moscone Center!
Juice Shop
Your typical expensive juice shop, but sometimes you just gotta do it. They only serve 16-oz juice in a glass bottle ranging in price from $8-10. A few include:
- Deep Green: kale, spinach, parsley, romaine, cucumber, celery, lemon $9.50
- Lemon-Aid: ginger, lemon, cayenne, agave, filtered water $8
- 5 Seed (Smoothie): hemp seed, chia seed, flax seed, pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, e3live blue-green algae, banana, strawberry, raw sprouted almond milk $9

Whole Foods Market
I’m a little biased about Whole Foods because I live in the city that has the best one ever (flagship store, whattup) so naturally I am in love with this store. Yes, it gets a bad rap sometimes. Yes, it is overpriced at times. You just have to learn how to do it right. I love their salad and hot bar, just it is important to not load up on the heavy stuff unless you want the heavy price tag. There’s also a large variety of take-out options, juices, and even a small gastropub inside.

Urban Picnic
Urban Picnic is Vietnamese-style, fast, and casual. You can get a variety of salads, bowls, sandwiches, pho, etc. Their kale salad was featured in this article as one of the most unforgettable kale salads in America. They also have a few fresh pressed juices. I would get:
- Kale & Quinoa Salad: blueberries, tomatoes, carrots, almonds, nori, sesame ginger soy vinaigrette $9.95, or add lemongrass/5 spice/roasted chicken for an extra $2.75
- 5 Spice Chicken Urban Bowl: cabbage, herbs, pickled veggies, cucumbers, bean sprouts & peanuts, with organic quinoa $9.95
- Organic Tofu Urban Pho: rice noodles, onions, cilantro, basil, bean sprouts, lime, msg-free lemongrass broth $10.95

Pressed Juicery
Juice on juice on juice. I know juice is very stereotypical healthy, but I really do find a difference in my energy level and overall health when I drink juice while traveling. This mini shop serves up some of the best! I’m waiting for the day that SF gets Pressed Juicery Freeze, but until then these are some of my faves:
- Greens 3: kale, romaine, parsley, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, ginger $6.50
- Vanilla Almond: almond, date, sea salt, vanilla bean $8
- Roots 3: apple, beet, ginger, lemon $6.50

Tender Greens
Salad. Heaven. The concept is simple. You either get a big salad (all $12) which have a variety of options and flavors, a simple salad (all $6) which are basically greens and a dressing, or you get a big plate (all $12) where you pick your protein and either get it on a sandwich, on a simple salad, or with a side of mashed potatoes. As simple as the concept may be, there are an abundance of options and something for everyone! I like:
- Herb Brushed Albacore Plate: grilled rare with sea salt, lemon & olive oil; I would get mine served on a simple kale salad (parmesan, roasted garlic vinaigrette) $12
- Backyard Steak Big Salad:red and green butter lettuce, radishes, red and gold beets, horseradish vinaigrette $12
- Summer Squash & Blistered Tomato Salad Side $6

Safe travels y’all!
