Bucket List Hotel: Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz, Switzerland

I'm Chelsea.

St. Moritz has been on my bucket list for awhile now, so when my family had the chance to stay at Badrutt’s Palace (thanks Mom for winning 2 free nights at Virtuoso Travel Week!) I jumped on the opportunity to join them.

St. Moritz is an iconic luxury resort town in Switzerland’s Engandin Valley, known for not only its outdoor activities and skiing but also for its luxury hotels and fine dining. We stayed at Badrutt’s Palace, a 5-star hotel with expansive views of the lake & mountains and an impressive history. Opened in 1896 by Caspar Badrutt, Badrutt’s was the first Palace hotel in the world. Throughout the years of being an adored haunt for celebrities and royalty alike, Badrutt’s has truly become the symbol of St. Moritz.

Everything about Badrutt’s Palace exudes luxury. From the moment we were picked up at the train station in a vintage Bentley until a few days later when we were dropped off in a classic Rolls Royce, Badrutt’s Palace went above and beyond in exceptional customer service. Welcome champagne with a view of the lake included!

My first impression of the hotel is while it very much resembles a palace in design, the old-world decor and flow maintained a warm and welcoming feel. With 157 accommodations and 37 of those being suites, the hotel still feels intimate and not overwhelming in size.

Badrutt’s Palace really puts out all of the stops for its clients with all of the included amenities!

  • Complimentary tickets for all mountain railways, cable cars and public transport in St. Moritz for the duration of our stay (for stays of 2 or more consecutive nights)
  • Mini-bar with drinks and snacks that were refilled every day. It was great to come back from a long day of hiking to a swiss beer and chocolates! When booking a suite, you also have a liquor bar with whisky, gin, vodka, and rum.
  • Transfers via Rolls-Royce or Bentley (available upon request). Our transfer service was waiting for us when we arrived at the train station.
  • Entry to Palace Wellness. The spa and pool area was a perfect retreat after a full day of hiking in the surrounding mountain trails. The setting is beautiful and includes an indoor/outdoor pool, a cave-like jacuzzi, sauna, and a number of steam and mist rooms. There is a private tennis court during the summer and a private ice rink in the winter.
  • Free Wi-Fi, newspaper, and welcome gift.

When booking through me, you also receive the following extra Virtuoso amenities:

  • Daily buffet breakfast for two
  • Room upgrades, subject to availability.
  • $100 USD equivalent Food & Beverage credit (no cash value if not fully redeemed during your stay).
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability.

I’m glad I brought my tennis shoes, because St. Moritz is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream whether you come in the summer or winter. From hiking and biking in the summertime, to skiing and snow sports in the winter, St. Moritz offers an abundance of activities. If you prefer to travel at a more leisurely pace, you can still take the cable car and funicular railways up Mt. Engadin and enjoy a delicious apple strudel and beer (let’s just say we did a mixture of both).

The dining scene in St. Moritz comprises of a mixture of Swiss delicacies, fine cuisine, and Italian food (St. Moritz is very close to the Italian border!) We indulged in fondue at Le Lapin Bleu at Hotel Steffani, pizza & Italian food at Pizzeria Heuboden at Chesa Veglia (owned by Badrutt’s Palace), and lakeside cocktails & burgers at Pier 34.

Safe travels y’all!
